Beginning in August, we will be holding interviews with speakers who will be presenting at the Carbon Capture World Summit in September. We will also be interviewing delegates and other members of the carbon sequestration world.
Interviews will be presented via this blog, the website and podcasts. Do you have questions relating to CCS that you want to ask or specific people you want us to interview? Send them to me at valerie.king@pira-international.com.

Carbon Capture World Summit - Part 2
With the creation of associations such as the Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute in Australia, CCS is increasingly becoming an international initiative. With the Carbon Capture World Summit in Arlington, Virginia in September, we hope to provide yet another forum for international discussion and debate - this time on US soil.
Day 1 will be devoted to issues of international policy, updates and funding for CCS. With presentations from political figures, financial institutions and regulatory bodies, the first day will provide an overview the international CCS platform.
Day 2 will be a bit more 'nuts and bolts' - with presentations on technology, case studies from around the world and the public and stakeholder perspectives.
The event will feature numerous networking opportunities and open question and answer sessions and panels. We have limited speaking opportunities still available. If interested, please contact me at valerie.king@pira-international.com.
We are also looking for people in carbon capture and alternative energy fields to participate in a panel on "CCS funding vs. Money for Alternative Energy Research." Please contact me if interested in participating.

Countdown to PV Summit 2009
IntertechPira’s fourth-annual Photovoltaics Summit is only a week away and we’re busy getting ready for a fantastic event this year.
In today’s PV market, the competition is hot and everyone wants to get their technology out into the consumer marketplace ahead of the pack. A full afternoon will be dedicated to the real world successes and challenges met by corporate consumers of PV technology, including Whole Foods, Pepsico, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and Safeway. I’m looking forward to learning how Green Mountain Coffee Roasters’ solar project met the challenges of the temperamental northeast weather!
This year we’ve added more content than ever, with a wide range of sessions:

This year we’ve added more content than ever, with a wide range of sessions:
- Materials and manufacturing overview
- Corporate solar: The voice of the consumer
- Market overview, government updates and financing opportunities
- Thin film and organic photovoltaics: PV performance and innovations
- Movement toward the adoption of utility-scale solar
- Technological developments for next-generation PV modules
PLUS, we’re pleased to announce that Thomas Rueckert, Solar Program Operations Manager, US Department of Energy, will be giving a luncheon address on Tuesday, June 2nd.
We hope to see you in San Francisco!

Carbon Capture and Storage World Summit
We are getting very excited about our upcoming Carbon Capture and Storage World Summit in September. This forum will be the place where the US Carbon Capture and Storage industry meets the international players and with several panels, open question and answer sessions and numerous networking breaks, we think it will be a very productive event.
The conference will be held on 22-24 September in Arlington, Virginia and will cover regulatory and policy issues, funding and investment opportunities, public and stakeholder perspective and case studies on the research and development to commercial use timeline. Also, unique to our conference, we will be bringing the heavy industries and power generation audiences together at the same forum.
If interested in participating in this event as a member of the press, a speaker, delegate or exhibitor, please contact me at valerie.king@pira-international.com.

Fuel Cells Summit: Buy One Registration and Get One Free
Until this Friday - 15 May - companies interested in participating in the 3 day Fuel Cell Summit in Hamburg, Germany on 23 - 25 June 2009 can take advantage of our "buy one registration at
£675 and get the second registration free" promotion. Recognizing that the economy is causing both the tightening of corporate budgets and a more pressing need for contacts within the industry, we are offering our own version of the "economic stimulus."
For those companies that want to highlight their achievements, we are also offering exhibit booths for £299.
We hope to see you there!

Carbon capture and storage just had a suprising boost...
Wow. From BusinessGreen:
No new coal without CCS in the UK, says government: Ed Miliband announces that all new coal plants will have to demonstrate carbon capture capabilitiesThe government has today announced the beginning of the end for traditional coal-fired power in the UK, confirming that it would block any plans to build new coal plants without carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology. In a surprise move, climate change secretary Ed Miliband said that from today any new coal-fired power station must have CCS capabilities on at least 400MW of its output – about a quarter of the output of an average power station – from its first day of operation.
Needless to say, that's a big step. How do you feel about such drastic measures?

Rob Stead's Photovoltaics Soapbox
This blog post is courtesy of Rob Stead - another member of the alternative energy team here at IntertechPira. The original post can be found here.
Not a day goes by recently that my inbox isn't packed full of articles about the blossoming photovoltaic industry, but it is the aim of this blog to filter out the noise and pick out gems of information, debate the pressing issues, and hopefully draw comment from you, my PV industry peers.
Much of the world's economy is reeling from the banking crisis, but there's an air of optimism, and genuine global unity in support of PV. Despite some concerns over the impact of shrinkage in the Spanish market, the outlook is positive, both from an investment perspective and from commentators within the industry.
Ever important, of course, is support from government authorities, so it's encouraging to see that in addition to the well publicised Obama policies on renewables, the UK is also making major steps in the right directions and China has announced a solar incentive that should see them play a major role in the future of global PV markets.
From a business perspective, there continue to be large scale deals and partnerships announced, the headline this week being First Solar taking control of Optisolar's PV line and underlining their position as market leader in the thin film sector.
Overall the news is good, especially for new European PV markets like Italy, France and Greece, where growth is strong - Italy is projected to more than double it's capacity in 2009. For this reason, IntertechPira will host their inaugural Photovoltaics Summit Europe in Rome, on 30th June - 2nd July 2009.
With key industry figures from the European Commission, Global Solar Energy, Solaria Germany GmbH, SMA Italia, Suntech and Dyesol as well as a whole host of other expert speakers, this is an unimssable opportunity to understand how to be a part of the new European PV markets. Please visit the website or email me to find out more.
And don't forget - June is PV Month at IntertechPira. with over 100 delegates already registered, the Photovoltaics Summit, 1st - 3rd June in San Francisco, is one of the fastest growing PV events in the US. Visit the US website here.
